INCORPORATING CREATIVE MEDIA INTO YOUR EVENTS

Over the past few months, we have been offering advice on ways to create an event on a limited budget that will not only impress attendees, but leave them wanting more.  One way to add some spice to your events is by adding media content.

Animations.  This can range from continuously branding your image with animations and logos to using roll-in elements in lieu of PowerPoint presentations.

Highlight Videos.  Another popular media element is a highlight video that can be shown during the last gathering of your event.  Having a camera cover your general sessions, award shows, breakout rooms and behind-the-scenes aspects provides you with video to garner interest for future events.  Additionally, this video can be streamed so all of your attendees will be able to relive the event.

Creative OpenerOther suggestions include producing a video as a creative alternative to introducing your keynote speaker at an event.  For example, a Las Vegas-type video can have your CEO as a superhero saving the citizens of Las Vegas, pre-produced with the look and feel of happening live somewhere in Las Vegas.  The segment can end with the CEO emerging from backstage while still wearing his mask.  That's an example of a video idea we've done for another client.

High Energy Opening Video.  Another option for event media is showing a high-energy opening video, played at the beginning of your first gathering.  These can be as generic as stock Las Vegas footage edited to upbeat music or as specific as flying your company logo up and down the Las Vegas Strip.  Opening videos are a sure-fire way to motivate your attendees and set the tone for the entire event.

The options are almost limitless when it comes to incorporating media elements into your upcoming event.  The only obstacle to overcome is your imagination.

WHAT’S NEW:

What has DAV been up to lately?  Our sales and event production teams have traveled well over 21,000 miles in the past month and a half for a wide variety of events.

Several DAV members loaded one of our 53’ trucks with gear and headed to the happiest place on Earth – The World Center Marriott in Orlando, FL – for Sallie Mae’s 3-day annual event.  We pre-produced media content for the event, which included having Sallie Mae’s executives in our studios for a series of humorous segments.  The difficulty of coordinating all of the elements, from décor to in-house lighting, and executing a long-distance event was made easier by our relationship with the Marriott’s in-house staff.  Together we put on a flawless event, and Sallie Mae has named DAV Productions as “our video and event production company for life.”

After returning from Orlando, our event production staff began work on a multi-city tour for Pink Magazine, a publication for professional business women.  We developed a stage concept, determined the room layout, designed the set, pre-produced media and arranged video, lighting and sound for the nationwide luncheons, which are hosted by prominent businesswomen.  Locations for these luncheons include Atlanta, New York City, Boston, San Francisco, Charlotte, NC, and Washington D.C., where Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison was the guest speaker.

With all of this traveling, our staff still found time to accomplish some local events as well.  VM Direct hosted at 2-day event at the Venetian.  Our sales team helped to develop the theme and messaging for the 1,800-attendee event, “Feel the Power of One.”  DAV’s media department created the show open and close as well as animated logos, and our event production team built staging and lighting, and handled video and sound.  This event required a quick turnaround of audio gear between the General Session and the Recognition Dinner, which was accomplished seamlessly.

Finally, DAV Productions is proud to announce the acquisition of the advertising agency, the MIM Group, and its numerous local, regional and national clients.  We’ve added the company’s Art Director, Josh Meeter, and Interactive Director, Kristian Kolev, to our media department, and principal Mike Hopper has been named Creative Director at DAV.  The image to the left is a screen capture from a website designed by Mike & his team.  Creation of 3D home imagery and flash animated website helped the client sell houses before models were even built.

STAFF PICKS - BEN'S FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN VEGAS FOR FREE!!!

There are so many great shows in Las Vegas!  Every week it seems like there's a new 'Cirque' show popping up on the strip.  Many of these shows cost over $100 to see, however, there are a few hidden gems which cost nothing to see.  Here's a list of a few that you should check out if you have some time!

5.  Masquerade Show in The Sky - Rio Hotel & Casino.  The Masquerade Show in the Sky is held Daily at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm in the Masquerade Village.  This show gives you the experience and excitement of Brazil's Carnivale.  The Show in the Sky features state-of-the-art floats that suspend from the ceiling and parade above the casino floor.  The show evokes the electrifying and colorful atmosphere of Carnivale as performers clad in exotic masks and brilliant costumes entertain with exciting music and dance!  You can even get in the show if you call ahead of time.  Grab some beads and a drink and head out to see the show!

4.  The Garden - Bellagio Hotel & Casino.  Just beyond Bellagio's gracious lobby lies the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, a kaleidoscope for your senses. You'll want to take a moment to appreciate the intricate detail blooming before your very eyes. Submerge your soul in this magnificent garden abounding in fragrance, texture and color. Row upon row of exotic plants and flowers weave a glorious tapestry displaying the unique highlights of every season and holiday. There's no more inviting location for a photo opportunity. Take advantage of this unique setting and create a moment to cherish for years to come.

Bellagio’s Conservatory is transformed five times a year – winter, spring, summer, fall and Chinese New Year – with exquisite floral displays, cascading fountains and theatrical affects.

3.  "Lake of Dreams" - Wynn Hotel & Casino.  The "Lake of Dreams" show is produced with thousands of lights that turned the water into a swirl of colors and bathed the pine trees in blues and greens.  The main attraction is a large, curtain waterfall behind a mountain that faces the strip.  The waterfall falls into a 3 acre (12,000 m2) lake.  Both the waterfall and lake have images displayed on them.  The show starts on the hour beginning in the afternoon.

The show can be viewed from the Parasol Up (a bar and viewing area), and can be seen through a glass window with no audio. Or, the show can be viewed from down-parsel, with a larger view. Visitors can go to the platform at the Parasol Down bar to view the show with full-blast audio. Diners can also chose some restaurants around the resort to get a full view of the show while dining.  Get there early and grab a drink so you can watch it a few times . . . there are a few different shows.

2.  Fremont Street Experience - Fremont Street.  With its $70 million light canopy, $17 million in upgrades and 550,000-watt sound system, the Fremont Street Experience is sure to mesmerize.  Positioned 90 feet above Fremont Street, the attraction stretches 1,400 feet and consists of 12.5 million synchronized LED modules, including 180 strobes and eight robotic mirrors per block. It's capable of producing millions of color combinations, animations and video feeds, allowing the display to switch from a swirling ocean setting to a television broadcast in minutes.

Ranging from six to nine minutes, shows at the Fremont Street Experience include "Lucky Vegas," which celebrates the classic icons of Sin City, and the exciting "Speed, Smoke and Spinning Wheels," which transports guests into the world of fast-paced auto racing. Also part of the lineup are "Area 51," in which earthlings go head-to-head with a fleet of aliens, "American Freedom," a patriotic tribute to the United States, and "The Drop," a psychedelic adventure kicked off by a single drop of water.

If standing among the crowds isn't your style, stop at Krispy Kreme, grab a doughnut and enjoy the Fremont Street Experience from the comfort of an outdoor patio.

1.  Bellagio Water Show - Bellagio Hotel & Casino.  This is my favorite free show in Vegas to see (as I'm sure many residents would agree).  Bellagio's world-famous fountains will speak to your heart with opera, classical and whimsical music while flirting with your playful nature through their carefully choreographed movements. You'll be swept away by this breathtaking union of water, music and light.  The Show times are: Monday - Friday 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., show every 1/2 hour; 8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m., show every 15 minutes; Saturday & Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., show every 1/2 hour; 8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m., show every 15 minutes.
